Mieke and Sam – Wedding Photographer in Busan and Gyeongju, South Korea

The pandemic of 2020 and 2021 has not been easy on events. This of course includes weddings. That’s why I was excited to be able to photograph Mieke and Sam’s intimate wedding in Busan. They definitely had their share of uncertainty and adjustments to make around the Covid situation, but they were able to make it happen.

The wedding was held at Kyss Coffee, a picturesque cafe along Gijang’s coastline. The setting couldn’t have been more beautiful, with a backdrop of blue ocean and rocky beaches. It was an intimate ceremony, with a handful of friends and coworkers. The rest of the family and friends who couldn’t make it were able to join in via live stream, a technology that seems to have become ubiquitous in the past couple of years.

It was a simple, beautiful ceremony. The couple exchanged vows and had their first dance under late springtime skies. After some photo ops, it was time for a coffee and dessert courtesy of the cafe.

Due to the current situation, the wedding and reception was kept relatively short and simple. We had decided beforehand to put more focus on the wedding portraits. Luckily, we had some absolutely gorgeous locations nearby. We started at a nearby beach, just a couple hundred meters from the cafe. Again, the rocky beach and ocean made for a stunning background.

Afterwards, we drove about an hour to the historical city of Gyeongju. This is actually one of Sam’s favorite places in Korea, which made it even more special. It had been a long day so far, but the couple’s energy came rushing back when we were amidst the beautiful architecture. We shot at Woljeong Bridge, as well as the nearby Confucian village. The river was perfectly calm that day as well, which made for some gorgeous sunset portraits.

It was wonderful working with Mieke and Sam and an absolute pleasure to photograph their special day.
