Last December, I had the pleasure of working with college friends Phylicia and Nency, who were traveling through South Korea together with their families. For a multi-family journey, the ancient capital of Gyeongju is a great place to capture memories.
We started the afternoon at the Woljeonggyo Bridge, where the wooden architecture and calm river provided a classic setting for their group portraits. From there, we moved into the neighboring Kyochon Traditional Village. The families rented traditional Korean hanboks in coordinating pastels, which beautifully matched the historic surroundings as we captured playful moments with the kids.
To round out this winter session, we headed to the ancient Cheomseongdae Observatory area, using the tall silvergrass to add texture and touches of nature to their candid family interactions.
Planning Tip for Your Gyeongju Session
The Cheomseongdae landscape shifts dramatically with the seasons—featuring spring flowers, summer greens, and autumn pink muhly and silvergrass. Because we need to cover significant ground to link these iconic locations together, a longer package is required to combine the traditional village, bridge, and observatory grounds in a single session.
