Some time back, had the chance to photograph Shihoe’s extended family portrait session at Changgyeonggung Palace in Seoul. The session brought together several generations — including grandparents, parents, aunt, and the family’s little one — making it a really meaningful way to capture time together.
We met in late July, right in the middle of Seoul’s lush summer season. The palace grounds were full of deep green leaves and soft summer light, which paired beautifully with the traditional Korean architecture throughout Changgyeonggung. Historic locations like this are some of my favorite places for portrait sessions in Seoul because they offer such a timeless and uniquely Korean backdrop.
With extended family sessions, I always try to balance classic group portraits with natural moments. Between the posed family photos, there were plenty of fun interactions — especially the playful moments with the youngest member of the family — which always bring extra life to the images.
Places like Changgyeonggung Palace make it easy to create a variety of looks during a single session, from formal portraits framed by palace corridors to relaxed family moments under the shade of the summer trees.
Below are some highlights from Shihoe’s family portrait session in Seoul.
